Description:

I curated a permanent outdoor photography exhibition of my own street photography at Açı High School. My mission was to draw attention to consumerism and collect digital waste for recycling. Since Açı High School primarily used computers and tablets for education, many of the students had a lot of electronic waste to dispose of. The gallery collected electronic waste that became part of the display. At the end of the exhibit, I collected 20kg of electronic waste to donate to TEGV’s “Atma Bağışla” (Don’t Throw, Recycle”) campaign where they either reused, recycled, or sold the parts to fund children’s technology education.

Design Process:

I painted a mural of Istanbul’s map and placed the images on the locations they were shot at. I included photos of layered advertisements and flyers that I saw marking time on the streets. The exhibit was called “Geride Bırakılanlar” or “Abandoned”. Following this theme, I always try to be aware of where the technology I use comes from, and where it ends up.
