Challenges and Outcomes

Designing a career exploration simulation, I gained experience presenting prototypes and product requirements to cross-functional teams, implementing technical and non-technical feedback, and iterating until the design was engaging to an audience starting from K-12 and spanning to adults.

Challenges:

  • Learning and using an internal Unity SDK for the first time while in development.

  • Collaborating with a core team of 5, and a larger team of 20 designers, engineers, and specialists (VFX, animation, localization) within a short timeframe and on the same Unity project.

  • Mitigating and working around merge conflicts on GitHub.

  • Becoming an expert on a career path I did not know about.

  • Picking one concept from a pool of 20 options and fitting it into a 5-minute story.

Outcomes:
  • Completed a 5-minute-long interactive career exploration simulation about repairing a rooftop A/C unit from start to finish.

  • Received positive feedback on all stakeholder review meetings and subject matter expert reviews.

  • Completed localization, height adjustment, and closed captioning for accessibility.
