VIDEO ART
With video art and virtual reality, I combine my experience in drawing and digital media to create moving images. I filter through ideas about consciousness, reality, and psychology in my colorful and abstract pieces. I see video art and extended reality as a canvas to combine different media and ideas, exploring ways of digitally enhancing the mundane into the sensory spectacle.
My video art pieces are abstract, colorful, and nostalgic. I incorporate clips from my digital paintings, virtual reality drawings, and animations. I aim to evoke ideas about the nature of reality and human experience. I try to reach out to my viewers on a personal level, establishing an unexplored territory of intimacy: digital intimacy. I often choose one human subject I connect with, and that the viewer can anchor themselves to.
In my piece “dreammind” (last piece on this page), I envisioned a video that has different audio heard each time it is viewed. Each audience member was asked to shuffle their music playlist while they watched it broadcast on their screens at the same time. This way, they brought in their own experience with a random song, the emotions that it evokes, and new possibilities of meaning in the video. In the end, we could all reflect on how our experiences and realities will always be slightly different, but they were able to line up and connect arbitrarily. In my experience, images and sounds always make sense through the filter of our creative minds that weave stories out of our random experiences.
