ABOUT ANIMAGRAPH
The goal of this project is to introduce models of hand-drawn characters to animate graffiti pieces. It demonstrates a brand new model of collaboration across media: the unseen world of graffiti, and the loud and colorful world of AR.
Description
Outcomes
Process
Starting with a collaborative sketch I had done with Prizmo and Epok, I modeled characters in Blender and textured them in Unity. Using Vuforia to scan my image target, I placed the characters on graffiti pieces, added music and animations, and optimized the lighting for AR. Finally, I created a menu out of an image of Travis Mackey's acrylic paintings.
• Learned that environment design plays a critical role in augmented reality
• Explored texturing in Unity and created custom textures
• Used buttons and created UI elements for the Unity Canvas
• Used particle effects
Challenges
• Animation hierarchies
• UV unwrapping and face directions across platforms
• Lighting in AR
• Accessibility of the murals
Future Direction
The next XR experience I hope to create with Prizmo and Epok is one where users can teleport in a virtual environment to view hidden graffiti.
