Description:

Magical Mosques brings together historic environments with fine art by Naoto Hattori to create a mystical museum experience like no other. It brings art, music, and religious architecture together in a digital space. The user goal is simply to experience the dizzying atmosphere of the colorful mosques and the cyclical story that the creatures take you on. I wanted to open up my viewers to the possibility of encountering mythical creatures, spirit animals, and unknown entities.

Process:

I started with 360s of Mosques in Turkey, then added a few mosques in Iran which inspired me. Following a bell-curve pattern in the colors, the scenes start neutral and become complex, then return to neutral. The storyline follows the discovery of similar magical creatures in different mosques and is a loop of changing colors and symbols that the user can keep circling in.

Challenges:

• Navigating the Unity interface for the first time

• Transferring the application from Google Tours to unity due to the discontinuation of Tours

Outcomes:

• Learned that making materials yourself can produce a smoother workflow

• Saw that using placeholders is a good way to test out different scenes and prototypes before committing to a final look
